Therefore you have to resort to reverse engineering to understand the actually quite beautiful mechanics that 5e employs.

Originally I was going to write a rant in the style of the Angry DM’s critique of earlier editions, but my attitude has softened somewhat. The Angry Mob is designed around grapple rules. Their tactics focus on grabbing, surrounding, pinning, and pummeling the target of their ire. The mob will grapple nearby enemies and then attempt to knock them prone. Remember that rising from prone requires movement, and grapple reduces movement to 0.
